Jokhang Temple
A Holy Land for Pilgrims
Jokhang Temple is one of the most important Buddhist holy places in Tibet. With a history of more than 1,300 years, it enshrines the statue of Sakyamuni at the age of 12. Every day, numerous believers come here to pay homage, prostrate themselves full-length on the ground, spin prayer wheels and pray for blessings. Tourists can get a close feel of the sacredness of Tibetan Buddhism in this temple, experience the traditional bazaar of Barkhor Street, and get familiar with Tibetan handicrafts.
